Women seeking terminations
can’t wait. Who will make way for them? Will potentially serious gynaecological
conditions like cervical cancer be missed because of a delay in being seen? Or
will the HSE outsource surgical terminations?
In the last decades, the NHS
has outsourced most terminations of pregnancy to private businesses like BPAS
and Marie Stopes. Stopes have been faulted on several levels by the Care
Quality Commission. Some very serious violations, the most serious of which was
surely the attempted procedure on a distressed, developmentally delayed girl
who presented alone at the clinic (having been dropped off) and did not know
why she was there. The staff were prepared to go ahead; the CQC Inspector had
to intervene. This can only have been an abuse victim.
After six months, the CQC
made another report – they found that the patients who were DNP (did not
proceed to termination) were approached after a few weeks with the offer of a
date for an abortion. The CQC found that staff bonuses were linked to the
number of abortions they brought in. Will Marie Stopes be allowed to exploit
Irishwomen in Ireland? Or will the Government turn a blind eye to the safety
and consent violations that were found in the UK? Marie Stopes are in Dublin
already, what would stop them from moving down the country? They admitted
abortion clinics were ‘on the radar’ if the law changes. For more about Marie
Stopes go here[i]
Much of the above was largely
ignored by the Irish media who had a referendum in their sights. If they care
so much about women, why, when Marie Stopes were found to have serious safety
issues in August 2016 and reported upon in December, did they not warn Irishwomen
about to travel there?
The British Pregnancy Advisory
Service (BPAS) have already purchased an Irish domain name abortion.ie.
They’re ready.
